Slippery Slopes

Filed under: Politics — darthopto @ 7:52 pm

In his address to the Continental Congress, prior to his signing of the Constitution, Benjamin Franklin gave a speech. In that speech he said that although he saw fault with some of the provisions of the Constitution, he recognised that “a General Government necessary for us, and there is no Form of Government but what may be a Blessing to the People if well administered;…” So recognising faults he signed his name to the Constitution.

He then stated “I believe farther that this is likely to be well administered for a Course of Years, and can only end in Despotism as other Forms have done before it, when the People shall become so corrupted as to need a Despotic Government, being incapable of any other” (emphasis added).

Despotism: a system of government in which the ruler has unlimited power (M-W.com)

I would submit that we are on those slippery slopes to a despotic government. This did not begin with Obama, nor did it start with Bush as some would have us believe. This has been going on for a very long time. Our representatives, those who we elect honestly think that we are stupid and will just go along with anything. The latest in our slide to despotism is the current debate regarding health care.

Should the health care industry be reformed? You will not hear a dissenting opinion about that from me.
Are the current bills being considered in the House and Senate the way to do it? NO!
The House bill has provisions which state that ALL Americans will purchase health insurance or face stiff penalties to include up to a 250,000 dollar fine and up to 5 years in jail. I do not believe it is Constitutional to force Americans to buy a product which they may or may not want. It is wrong and I urge everyone to get informed and tell their representatives that they do not want this bill.

This is just one example of what is going on.

The American people are not stupid, we just seem to have been asleep. We have let others drive who did not have our best interests at heart, only their own. We let others drive who have been quite frankly drunk at the wheel. We need representatives, who do not for lack of a better word, whore themselves out to the highest bidder and their parties.

So let’s wake up and find men and women to represent us who have honour and integrity.

We are not stupid. Divided, as the parties would like us, we are weak and easily led like sheep. Standing together for true representation we as a nation are strong.
